Amaya Turner, Editor-in-Chief
Amaya Turner (Class of 2023) joined the Green Wave Gazette staff her freshman year. This is her third year on the paper, and she has moved up from Copy Editor to Editor-in-Chief. In the 2019-2020 school year, Turner won three “Best of SNO” awards for her articles titled “Love is Love,” “Cirque du Soleil Dazzles Again,” and “Entering the World of Journalism and Politics.” In the 2020-2021 school year, Turner won an additional "Best of SNO" award for her article "The Weight of Gender in Eating Disorders." She also placed first in the High School Division for the 2020 “Humans of Dementia” story-telling contest, and returned the following two years as a first-round judge. In 2022 Turner was quote in a Teen Vogue article about climate change anxiety, and received an "Honorable Mention" in the Scholastic Writing Awards in the Poetry category. Turner has always loved writing since she was little. She hopes to continue scribbling down fictional stories in her spare time, and reporting real stories in her school time.
