The Abington Green Wave beat the Middleboro Sachems 48-7 on Friday the 3rd of October. The Green Wave came out of the tunnel hungry and ready, scoring two touchdowns in the opening quarter. Senior Ryan Solimini breezed past the defense off a toss on the five-yard line for the first score, and the next drive Solimini caught a 30-yard bomb off a nice throw from junior quarterback, Jack Reilly.
The 2nd quarter was even more dominant as the Green Wave scored a total of three touchdowns. Senior captain, Kris Patterson, made a nice catch to set up a run from junior, Brendan Ward, to score the first. Then on the Sachem drive, senior Kingston Maxwell gets the interception to set up Patterson on the slant route for the score. On the next drive, senior Leeland Spry picks off the Sachem quarterback again. The Green Wave finished the half with two more touchdowns, runs from sophomore Daniel Pifer and quarterback Jack Reilly. Unfortunately, giving up their shut out on a kick return from Sachem number thirteen. The Green Wave finished the half at a commanding 41-7.
In the 3rd quarter Spry recovered a Sachem fumble to put the Green Wave up 48-7. The boys would protect this lead and win the game in dominating fashion. Senior captain Andrew Van Luling was asked about the team talk going into the game. He said, “They were a good team; It was the first league game, so we had to set the tone.” Van Luling was then asked about their big game against Norwell coming up, he responded with, “Tomorrow is a different week, we got Norwell, the biggest game in our schedule. We gotta be prepared, we gotta be ready.” Senior Captain Kris Patterson and senior Kingston Maxwell were asked about how they played defensively. Patterson responded with “We did good, we had a good running-back we had to stop, and we did great.” Maxwell added on, “We had a great mentality, and we have to keep that mentality for Norwell.”
A fantastic showing of the Green Wave and a great result leading into a clash versus Norwell. Number one vs number two in the division and a win for the Green Wave could move them into that number one spot.
