Bad bunny a Puerto Rican rapper, that has had global success with songs like dakiti that made billboard history by being the first Latin song to be first in both the billboard 200 and the billboard global Ex in the Us Charts. He has won three Grammys and eleven Latin Grammys. Throught his rise to fame he has faced many controversies regarding his music, many older people believe that his music is too vulgar and other believe that bad bunny has done good for the Latin community as he has pushed latin music into the mainstream along with other Latin stars like Karol G and Peso Pluma. Throughout his career you can also see how he has traveled from different genres through his 5 previous albums. At the beginning of his career he mainly was a trap artist with his first album las que no iban a salir. Then he experimented with reggaeton and more Carribean sounds with albums such as un Verano sin ti Then in his 5th album he had influences with both as well as bachata melody’s.
In his newest album called Debi Tirar Mas Fotos released on January 5th, he has once again changed his sound and has nostalgically used influences from older salsa, and reggaeton. This album is a love letter to bad bunny’s Puerto Rican roots, and a reminder to other Puerto Ricans to not forget about their roots. In an interview with The New York times, he said “Cuando estás lejos, a veces puedes ver mejor, puedes apreciar más las cosas. Todos los temas del álbum son de artistas que solía escuchar cuando estaba en Los Ángeles o de gira. Y fue especial porque puedes sentirte cerca de casa a través de la música. Ese es uno de los propósitos de este proyecto”(translation “when you’re far, you can sometimes see better, you can appreciate things better. All the themes in the album are from artists that i listed to when i was in los angles or when i was on a trip. That was a special feeling cause i could feel at home through music. That was one of the main reasons i made this project.”).
Some his newest songs on the album, like nuevayol and ballie inolvidable really show the old salsa influences. If you grew up in a Hispanic or Caribbean this album feels nostalgic while also feeling new and refreshing. If you didn’t grow up in the culture listen to this album it provides a beautifully done sound and something new to listen to and gives you better understanding of the Hispanic culture. I would recommond this album to eveyone it is very thoughtful album that makes you think and feel.
