When you’re a pop star in need of a break from your tiring career, where else should you go besides a random town in the middle of Kentucky?

When in Rome, a new-adult romance, by Sarah Adams is one of my new favorites. It is a typical romance book with the usual fill of cheesy parts; however, the characters in the story feel like such real people and truly make this book come to life.

When Amelia Rose, also known as Rae Rose to her fans, finds herself burned out and in desperate need of a break she takes inspiration from her favorite Audrey Hepburn movie, Roman Holiday and finds herself on a trip in Rome. Well… she finds herself in Rome Kentucky. Same thing, right? Amelia’s visit starts off very peachy when her car ends up breaking down in front of someone’s yard in Rome, Kentucky. As she struggles to get it running again, Noah Walker, the town’s pie shop owner, comes out of his house to offer his help. Being of popstar status, she’s on guard but reluctantly accepts his help because she is more or less stranded. Noah tells Rae Rose that he doesn’t have any time for her pop star drama, but she can stay in his guest bedroom until her car is fixed. But as Amelia stays with Noah, he begins to see a new side of her. He finds that she is a very real, down-to-earth person. At the same time Amelia begins to see that Noah isn’t as grumpy as he acts but in reality, quite the sweetheart.

What will happen when Amelia needs to go back to her life? Will they admit their feelings for each other? Will Noah stay in his small hometown forever or decide he wants to live in the spotlight too? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

This book is so well written, it is a great example of the grumpy-sunshine trope that doesn’t leave you aggravated at the characters. It had me laughing out loud at points and wanting to be a part of their world. I could not put this book down and ended up reading it in about two days. It’s truly an awesome read and I would give it 5/5 stars.
