Book Review: Gossip Girl

A look into the scandalous lives of New York City’s upper crust.
Book+Review%3A+Gossip+Girl

Gossip Girl, a popular TV series, is not just a TV series. Gossip Girl was inspired by the novel, that was published on April 1, 20002, by Cecily von Ziegesar. Through this series of books, we can enter a scandalous world of nasty secrets, guilty friendships and juicy gossip.

All these malicious situations are set in the Upper East Side of the fancy and glamorous city of New York; a city that during the day is a perfect place for tourists and childish activities. However, during the night everything changes, when the lights turns softer and the streets get empty, the bars and clubs get crowed. The characters live in extremely big apartments, in exclusive parts of the city, with limited edition furniture and incredible taste for clothes and expensive accessories. This, however, includes “Gossip Girl”, the mysterious girl or boy that’s hides behind this alias and publishes all the most scandalous gossip that happens in the city online, focusing on the private school that our characters go to.

The book story starts during the new school year, throwing us directly in the life of the characters. Serena Van Der Woodsen is back in the city, after she spent her junior year in a boarding school. Rumors about her start spreading around the city. Everybody knows. Everybody is talking about her. The real question is, why is she back? Did she really do all those crazy things that everybody talks about? Did she really got kicked out of the boarding school because of too much partying and some strange behavior?

Now that the mysterious and charismatic Serena is back it will not be easy any more for girls like Blair Waldorf, being the queen of the school, that does not give up her place easily, even if the “it girl of Manhattan” is not interested in taking back her spot, everybody know that there is only one Serena.

I highly recommend this book, because is literally impossible to put it down. Gossip Girl brings you to live and experience the lives of the most fashionable characters of the Upper East Side. Being part of chic events, glamorous parties and weird but nice friendships can only happen with Gossip Girl.
