Four Voices We Will Miss

Green Wave Gazette Senior Reporters Sign Out

May 22, 2018

For 14 years, the Green Wave Gazette club at Abington High School has published the school newspaper. And each year, freshmen and sophomores join the club in the fall and senior members leave in May.

This month, the Green Wave Gazette will bid goodbye to four members of the class of 2018: Nivetha Aravindan, Allison Dennehy, Morgan MacNeil-Berry, and Marc Vento. These four seniors have written over 40 articles between them. They have also edited articles, helped with layout and advertising, and offered support and encouragement to new members.

Before they leave, we wanted to share with our readers a little bit about them. And say congratulations seniors! We will miss you.

Nivetha Aravindan

Nivetha Aravindan, Associate Editor, joined the GWG in 2015 in order to “improve writing skills and learn about current events/issues in the process.” Aravindan said that the article she most enjoyed writing was “Abington’s Global Education: Italy 2017,” which she hoped might “influence other students to take advantage of Abington’s Global Education program.” The program has grown significantly since her article, and next year over 75 students (a record number) will be attending three educational trips. We wish Nivetha all the best as she begins her studies at Bentley University this fall.

Allison Dennehy

Allison Dennehy, Associate Editor, joined the GWG as a freshman in 2014. Although she wrote a variety of articles, Dennehy said that she has “always liked doing spotlight articles and conducting interviews” and has contributed many over the years. Dennehy’s favorite article she wrote for the newspaper was The Magic that Happens Behind the Scenes. Dennehy said, “This article was my favorite because I was able to interview both students [Jenner and Hagerty] and coaches for two winter sports, which differs from the teachers I usually interview.” We wish Allison all the best in her studies at the  University of Vermont which she will be attending in the fall.

Morgan MacNeil-Berry

Morgan MacNeil-Berry, Copy Editor, joined the GWG during the second semester of her freshman year in 2015. Since then, she has written many reviews. She says students should consider joining the Green Wave Gazette “because it’s truly one of the best AHS offers!” MacNeil-Berry’s favorite article that she wrote was her review on Shawn Mendes, whom she “hadn’t heard much of” until listening to his music for her article. As a reporter, she got to attend his concert and says “it was an amazing experience.”  MacNeil-Berry says she has “met incredible people and friends” as a member of the Green Wave Gazette and has “lived it so much” that she will be participating in the school newspaper at Berklee College of Music, where she is headed this fall. We hope to one day be covering a story about MacNeil-Berry’s success as an artist. Best wishes to Morgan!

Ms. Pflaumer
Marc Vento

Marc Vento, Staff Writer, joined the GWG in 2014, his freshman year. Vento says he joined because “I really enjoyed writing and wanted to write more after school.” He also joined to “be with my friends and make more friends through it [the club].” This year, Vento covered articles on art and fashion. He also wrote a college review entitled College Bound, which he said is his favorite article that he wrote. Marc will be attending Boston University in the fall and we wish him nothing but the best!
