Despite an endorsement from former rival Bernie Sanders, Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton continues to have trouble reaching younger voters. She has not fully picked up the support that her 75-year-old  ex-rival had during the primary season.

Sanders found the youth vote in much greater numbers than either Clinton or republican candidate Donald Trump.  However, no republican has won the youth vote since 1988, when George H.W. Bush did it, and Ronald Reagan before him in 1984. Clinton should be getting much more of the millennial vote considering their general dislike for Trump.

To solve her millennial crisis Clinton is bringing out her ultimate weapon against millennials. Sanders recently appeared at a rally with her in New Hampshire to help her win over the youths. This comes after recent reports that a large portion of the millennial vote is going to third party candidates like Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party and Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party. So, working with Sanders, who was invited by Stein to be on the Green Party ticket, is the best possible way to curtail the flow of millennials to third party candidates.

Trump responded to this by attempting to destroy Sanders’ credibility and pull with millennial voters. “Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders had very few people recently at their rally yesterday. And that’s because they don’t like Hillary, and Bernie sold out to the devil,” said Trump during his own New Hampshire appearance (Fox News). Trump’s attempts to curtail Sanders’ pull with millennials, like in the past, have had little effect and haven’t helped his standing with Generation Y.

It looks like the under 30 vote isn’t going how any candidate wants, and despite their best efforts little seems to be changing that.
