The Student Athlete Advisory Council
Senior Molly Ferguson is the secretary of the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). We sat down with her for a few minutes to find out what SAAC is up to this year and what her role is as secretary.
What is SAAC?
It stands for Student Athlete Advisory Council. It’s basically a council run by athletes at AHS who create events and ways to spread Green Wave Pride.
What role do you play in SAAC?
I am the secretary this year, which means I keep attendance and take notes. I do what any secretary would do.
What are some upcoming events sponsored by SAAC?
The captains of the fall sports teams are writing letters to select teachers inviting them to be honored at a Green Wave football game during Teacher Appreciation Night. Also, the couches in the Fanzone will be used again this year at home football games. We also will be organizing events for Pep Rally as well as Spirit Week.
Who are the officers for the Council, and who runs it?
Mr. Serino and Ms. Casey are the advisers. Sam Malafronte is the president; Alexis LaPointe is vice president; and I am the secretary. We also have a girls team liaison (Sydney Hamilton) and a boys team liaison (Meghan Golden) who talk to the girls and boys team about what they want from SAAC.
What is your involvement with Unified Soccer?
Most of us on SAAC have involvement with Unified Soccer. It was created by Mr. Serino, so naturally we all support him and the team. The team is a mix between student athletes and students from the Co-op program that come together and play soccer. Practices are once a week and games are scheduled periodically with other towns.
How do you think SAAC has positively effected AHS?
We have done the Pep Rally, Spirit Week, Fanzone, etc., to try and get everyone, athlete or not, involved in Green Wave Athletics. We want to get Green Wave Pride to be a large part of student’s experience at AHS, and it really is bringing us all together as a student body.
What are SAAC’s plans after the seniors graduate?
The plan is to continue advocating Green Wave Athletics.
