A Man, His Mics and His Guitar
Indie folk singer doesn’t disappoint
All it took was a man, his mics and a guitar to fill a 20, 000 seat amphitheater. Ed Sheeran, a charming 23 year old indie folk singer/songwriter from England, known for his song, “The A Team,” did not disappoint in his performance at the Xfinity Center on Tuesday, September 9.
Sheeran proved to be a wonderful performer in every sense of the word. Not only did he put on an entire one man show, he managed to remain very involved with the audience throughout the performance. Whether it be a request for all to sing along, or for all to be silent while he made the audience swoon with his soft voice and acoustic guitar. What made the performance especially powerful was that the crowd did as told. When Sheeran requested silence, you could hear the crickets from outside.
At one point while Sheeran was lost in his guitar playing, the audience started slowly waving their phones in the air. Soon the entire stadium lit up. It was an indescribable sight; the kind of sight that gives you goosebumps.
The stage simply consisted of Sheeran, three mics, his guitar, and a stool for him to sit on. That was all it took to leave everyone roaring for more. Sheeran created drum noises by banging on his guitar, and he handled all the harmonies himself; it was truly an impressive and exciting performance.
In between songs Sheeran also made sure to get some laughs out of the crowd, never failing to make thousands smile. His constant involvement and friendliness created a feeling of familiarity; he made all feel welcomed.
Sheeran has been recognized for composing songs such as “Little Things” and “Moments” for the band One Direction. He was also featured in Taylor Swift’s album, “Red.” Over the summer, he released his newest album, “X” which features the new hit song “Don’t.” Take the time to give the whole album a listen; it features many feel good songs to brighten your day.
