Mystery donor gives seniors a gift
Over the last two weeks, members of Abington High School Class of 2021 have received a surprise gift when they arrived to period 5 class. Each student received a magnet with the Green Wave symbol and “’21 Senior” on them.
However, no one knew where the magnets came from.
This interview was conducted by email to investigate who might have given the magnets and get the seniors’ reactions.
Jack Clifford, a member of the Class of 2021, did not know who donated the magnets, but said, “I thought that was sweet.” He added that “whoever donated the magnets, thank you so much!”
When the Class President Rachel Barrett was asked if she knew who donated them, Barrett said, “ I think that [it was a] group of parents that planned these donations.” She thought that the parents were “trying to surprise the seniors with small gifts to try and boost morale this year because of the loss of the regular senior year.”
Senior Ryan DiNocco had a similar thought as to why someone gave the magnets to the seniors. DiNocco said it was, “because they [donors] want people to try and recognize our success as we are being shadowed because of coronavirus.”
Instead of the anonymous donors being parents, senior Kaitlyn Scartissi had a different idea. Scartissi said, “Mr. Cutter [might have], because he’s our class representative [advisor] and he takes care of prom and all of our funding.”
However, when Mr. Cutter was interviewed, he said, “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea who donated these.” He thought parents might have donated them because they “just want to make sure that you all had something to help commemorate your class.” But he added, “I don’t want to speak for the donor.”
Cutter said that regardless of who donated them, “I hope that these magnets will be in the possession of a happy and successful class of 2021 graduate.” He added that he hoped “despite the challenges of this year, you’ll be able to look at them and remember all the great things that happened while here.”
