Big Win for Abington Hockey
Led by coach Bryan Woodford, Green Wave is on a roll
With a dominant 6-2 victory over the East Bridgewater Vikings on Sunday Feb. 9, The Abington Green Wave Boys Hockey team punched their ticket to the MIAA Tournament.
The night kicked off with senior night for EB. Then Abington junior David McArthur scored mid-first period, allowing Abington to gain an early game lead.
EB answered with 2.3 seconds left in the first period, scoring against senior Drew Wilson and tying the game at 1-1.
With four goals from Abington in the second period, two each by assistant captain Colin McDonald and junior John Polito, Abington led 5-1 going into the third.
EB brought the score to 5-2 with a late third period goal, but senior Stephen Pizzi put the game away for good with an empty net goal with less than a minute left to play.
When asked what the major factors were in clinching the win over EB, Pizzi said there were two. “Getting shots on net and moving the puck around,” he said. Pizzi said a third factor adding to every win this year is the “great team bond and chemistry” the players have with each other.
Before every game, Pizzi said the team “listens to a lot of music and try to get pumped up with the boys.”
When asked what the most memorable moment this season has been so far, Pizzi said it was the win over Rockland at the beginning of the month after going multiple seasons without a win against them.
Hockey’s next game is Monday, Feb. 17 at 1pm. For more information on their schedule, click here. To follow them on Twitter click here.
