Badminton Blast 2014

Mr. Dorman

The recent badminton tournament at AHS was definitely a blast! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and had a great time thanks to efforts of tournament directors Mr. Talbot, Ms. Langer and Mr. Robbins. It is also important to give thanks to the National Honor Society for sponsoring the event.

There were 62 players and 32 two person teams consisting of combinations of two teachers, two students or one of each. The tournament was held on November 18 and 19.

Part of the fun was seeing the participants dressed up in their uniforms/costumes. For example, Mr. McGinness and Ashling Geary came to play in their lab aprons and goggles. We’re told they were “lab partners” and not science geeks. Mr. Lee dressed up in a very bright rainbow suit. Mr. English and Ms. Pietrasik wore matching Batman jammies.  And my partner (Jon Reed) and I wore our Trucchi’s uniforms to represent our workplace.

The winners of the tournament were the Blue Barracudas a.k.a. Greg Killian and Timmy Reardon. They beat the defending champions, Mr. Serino and Mr. Perakslis, in the semi-finals. Then they beat Mr. Talbot and Chris Cirillo in the finals to become the first ever students to win the tournament. They ended the tournament undefeated. It is a shame that they will not have a chance to defend their title next year.
