Mr. Zachary Carey is a new history teacher this year at Abington High School.

This is his first-year teaching in Abington, having taught previously in both Norwood and Norwell . He teaches U.S. History, World History, and Psychology.

“I decided to come teach in Abington because I was familiar with the town, I played sports against Abington growing up, I live relatively nearby, and it just seemed like a really nice school, a lot of nice people, so it seemed like a good fit.”

— Mr. Carey

He attended Norwell High School and then went to Bridgewater State University for college. He majored in secondary education and minored in history and social studies.

When asked what made him want to become a teacher, Carey said it was because of one of his high school teachers. “I had a really great English teacher in high school who (in) my freshman year kind of pushed me in the right direction, and she taught me a lot more than just the subject.”

When asked why he wanted to come teach in Abington, Carey said “I decided to come teach in Abington because I was familiar with the town, I played sports against Abington growing up, I live relatively nearby, and it just seemed like a really nice school, a lot of nice people, so it seemed like a good fit.”

Carey said his favorite thing about teaching here so far has definitely been the students.

Outside of school; he is interested in football, sports, reading- although he says“it’s mostly boring history books”- and listening to music.

We are excited to have Mr. Carey aboard the Abington High School staff!
