Ms. Melissa Evansis anAcademic Support teacher at Abington High School. She has worked at the school for two years.

Before coming to Abington, Evans worked at North River Collaborative and Hanover Schools as an occupational therapist and a special education teacher for seven years at each school.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Evans teaches Academic Support classes and helps co-teach a biology class. She also works with students on their skills so “they can be successful in high school.”

Evans took over as the advisor for the Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) program from Dr. Elizabeth Gonsalves [Dr. G.]. “ACE is a place students can go after school to work on assignments and get extra work done,” Evans said.

This year because of COVID, Evans had to run the program differently. She said, “Students can go for help on Mondays and Thursdays after school until 3:30 in Room 2205.”

Some upperclassmen volunteer at the Academic Center to tutor students also. “It’s a good place to get extra help and also if you want to help out. And there is also a late bus at 3:30 if you need a ride home and anyone can go to ACE,” Evans said.

Evans graduated from Eastern Nazarene College with a degree in biology. She holds a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Tufts, and a Masters in Special Education from Bridgewater State University. She switched to teaching because she wanted “to spend more time working with students.”

Fun facts about Evans are that she was born in Hawaii because her dad was in the Marines.  She switched schools nine times before graduating high school.
