Fall II Athlete Spotlights: Week Six
Highlighting a Star Senior Cheerleader

Abington High School’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee(SAAC) has decided to honor two athletes during each week of the 2020-2021 Fall II season. SAAC will recognize one male and one female athlete per week, from the Football, Indoor Track (run outdoors), Volleyball, and Gameday Cheerleading teams. Highlighted on the sixth week of these Fall II spotlights is Leah Kinniburgh.

This week’s female Fall II spotlight is Leah Kinniburgh. She is a senior on this year’s Gameday Cheerleading team. Throughout high school, Kinniburgh was a flyer on the Varsity Cheerleading team. She began cheering in third grade and has been doing it ever since. She said her favorite memory of the sport “would be hitting our routine at regionals in 2018 and taking home 1st place.” When asked why Kinniburgh started cheering, she said, “When I was younger, I always attended my sister Mikayla’s high school cheerleading competitions with my mother. I always looked up to her and her teammates and wanted to be just like them.”
Kinniburgh received the Coaches Award and the South Shore League All Star Honor freshman year, and the Unsung Hero Award junior year. She also played lacrosse during high school. Her favorite teacher is Ms. Corbett, and her favorite class is Community Service. She currently participates in the National Honor Society, Yearbook Club, and Peer Leaders. Previously, she was a member of SAAC and Unified Sports. When asked who she credits her success to, Kinniburgh said, “I am thankful for my parents, coaches, and teammates who have been so supportive and helped me to create such great memories.” Her favorite memory from high school is “cheering with the youth cheerleaders on youth night. I always had so much fun spending time with the kids and teaching them cheers, as well as a halftime routine.” Leah Kinniburgh plans to attend UMass Boston to study Nursing after high school!
With the Fall II sports season coming to a close, this is the final week of the Fall II Athlete of the Week Spotlights. SAAC will continue with these spotlights during the Spring season, highlighting athletes from the Girls Lacrosse, Boys Lacrosse, Track & Field, Softball, Baseball, and Ultimate Frisbee teams.
