Abington Alumna Now AHS Teacher
Megan Tomlin joins Abington High School's English Department
Ms. Tomlin, a former seventh grade English teacher at the Frolio Middle School and Abington Middle School, is now at Abington High School teaching English to students in grades 11 and 12.
Tomlin graduated from Abington High School in 2008. She now teaches with some of her former teachers and classmates. She expressed gratitude to some of the staff that assisted her along the way. “I wouldn’t have been able to get here without help from Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Gonsalves, and Mrs. McHugh,” Tomlin said.
After graduating high school, she attended Assumption College in Worcester, where she majored in English and Mass Communications. Tomlin said Mass Communications is “the writing part of advertising and the news.”
Tomlin also had the opportunity to do a marketing internship at a Broadway theater. And she did radio packages for National Public Radio (NPR).

Tomlin said that her plan after college was to work for marketing. But while searching for job interviews, she substituted at the Frolio on her twenty third birthday “It felt like something clicked from just that one day,” Tomlin said.
After her experience substituting at the Frolio, she then started working towards getting her teaching license at Bridgewater State University.
She has a job where she is happy to come to work every day and her favorite part of being a teacher is “making personal connections with students,” Tomlin said.
Tomlin shared that working at the middle school was a valuable experience. The repetition of only teaching seventh grade was “helpful for practice.”
She now teaches some of her former students. “I love seeing the development in my students from when I had them in seventh grade to having them now as juniors and seniors,” she said.
Despite the challenges of this particular school year, Tomlin has a feeling of familiarity and comfort in her new position. She said, “Because I graduated from AHS, working here has honestly felt like coming back home.”
Although this year has been very different from others due to the pandemic, Tomlin says that even when everything is overwhelming, everyone is doing the best they can.
