Senior Mikey Kearns on Covid-19’s Impact on Learning

Covid-19's Impact on Education

Abington High School senior Michael “Mikey” Kearns says the most difficult aspect of online learning is “having to get adjusted to the new rules and regulations in the building.”

Prior to the most recent change when students only attended classes twice a week, Kearns said he liked the two days at home because he had “time to complete schoolwork and rest.”

However, he also said that the most difficult aspect of remote learning was “trying to stay focused while sitting in my room,” which is a major issue for the majority of students interviewed this year.

Kearns said a difficult aspect of learning this year is “having to get adjusted to the new rules and regulations in the building.”

Seniors like Kearns are losing their traditional events held during the last year of high school. Kearns said, “It would’ve been nice to be able to have a normal last year, and as a senior I wish that the pep rally and prom hadn’t been cancelled, but I understand it’s for everyone’s safety.”
