The New England Patriots were 8-0, until taking their first loss in week nine last night against the Baltimore Ravens at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium.

Before last night’s game, the Patriots defense had been stellar. They had 24 turnovers (interceptions/fumble recovery), allowed only 4 touchdowns, and allowed only 61 points in 8 games.

Their offense started the year with an elite core of wide receivers with Julian Edelman, Demaryius Thomas, Josh Gordan, Antonio Brown, and Phillip Dorsett, along with a talented rookie wide out N’keal Harry. But for week 8 their wideouts were Mohamad Sanu Sr., Julian Edelman, and Phillip Dorsett.

At the end of last night’s first quarter, the Ravens were beating the Patriots 17-0. Belichick and the Patriots seemed stunned. The Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson was strong. Jackson has the mobility and the throw of an elite upcoming quarterback. He is beating rushing records, and this is only his second year.

The Patriots had straightened out the second quarter, ending at 17-13, with Brady throwing a touchdown to Mohamad Sanu Sr. who had a particularly good night. Sanu Sr. had 10 receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Pretty good for his first game with a brand new offense. 

At the end of the 3rd quarter Patriots running back James White ran for a 2 yard touchdown, making it 24-20. Both teams were doing well.

But, in the 4th quarter, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman fumbled a catch. The fumble recovery touchdown for the Ravens defense made the game a two possession score 31-20. The Patriots offense then could not get anything going. Neither could their defense, allowing 13 points in the 4th quarter.

The final score was 37-20, making the Ravens improve to 6-2. The Patriots stand at 8-1. The Pats will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 11 at 4:25.
