Bryson Andrews Hits 1,000 Points
Despite a 3-point Loss to Hull, Andrews Wins

The moment we’ve all been anticipating since 2015 has arrived. Bryson Andrews has officially scored his 1,000th career point in high school basketball for the Green Wave.
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Abington’s Boys Basketball team made the journey down to Hull High School to take on the Pirates. It didn’t take Andrews very long to make history.
In the few short moments that Andrews sat at 999 points, the mood in the gym shifted. Suddenly, everybody seemed on edge. One point separated Andrews from something very special. The shot that did the job was a free throw in the very first quarter of the game. That one shot immortalized Andrews, whose name will hang down from the rafters in the high school gym for as long as the school shall stand.
Andrews said he knew the shot was going in when he took it. “It felt good before it even left my hand.” When asked about reaching 1,000 points, Andrews said, “It truly is an honor to be recognized as one of the greats to lace them up from Abington.” Andrews became only the fourth 1000 point scorer in school history.

Anyone who knows Andrews knows how hard he has worked to achieve this. He said, “It was a lot of early mornings. A lot. I worked hard with Coach Tighe and Marquardt in the gym doing drills for hours. It’s something that if you want it, you have to fully commit yourself to it. Coming in and being lazy just wasn’t an option. I knew what I wanted to do and made sure I took no shortcuts to get there.”
Once Andrews hit his shot the referees stopped the game to give him a celebration four years in the making. Surrounded by his teammates, coaches, and his family, Andrews was able to enjoy his moment to its full potential. Flowers were delivered to him which he immediately wanted to give to his mother and grandmother. “Family is very important to me. My mom comes to all my games and is a great supporter for me.”
Although the game ended in a tough 72-69 defeat for the Green Wave in favor of Hull, this was not a night without a win.
“I’d like to give a shout-out to all of my coaches from AAU and high school. Of course every single member of my family for pushing me to be great. If you were in my corner, just know I appreciate all the support.”
